When I first time seek some information online about Serpentine Gallery, I was shocking by Faith’s artworks. Because her colourful collection and special the material of paintings, even with rich political backgrounds. In my mind, art works with politics themes are always boring, and lack of colourful change. In fact, Faith’s artworks are quite the opposite. Each role that was painted in project has its own characteristics, amazing!
The two works in the exhibition gave me a lot of artistic inspiration. Careful observation, everyone is not the same skin colour and expression, although the picture is very delicate about the politics of the characters. Then, I tried to find out the characters and postures of the people around me by appreciating the works of Faith, and recorded them. I found this to be very interesting.
Use painting to capture and record life. She paid more attention on art and the race of human in her whole life. She said “I can’t get through the world without recognising that race and sex influence everything I do in my life.” In my opinion, painting and life must have the same beliefs and attitudes, feel the life with heart, thank life, then create a better artwork.
